How to Set Up Email in Apple Mail
A step-by-step guide to adding your Kwikweb-hosted email account to the Apple Mail app on your Mac — covering account creation, incoming and outgoing server settings, and the critical port adjustments macOS requires.
Check Your Password First
Before configuring Apple Mail, confirm your email password is correct by logging into Webmail at mail.yourdomain.co.za. If login fails, reset your password via your Kwikweb Control Panel before proceeding. Reset it by following this guide before continuing.
Throughout this guide, replace yourdomain.co.za with your actual domain name. Your username is always your full email address — e.g. info@yourdomain.co.za.
Important — Apple Mail defaults to SSL on port 993/465. Our server does not use SSL. After the account is created you will need to manually correct the ports and turn SSL off. Step 7 covers this in detail.
Add Your Email Account to Apple Mail
-
1
Launch Apple Mail on your Mac.
-
2
From the menu bar at the top of the screen, click Mail → Add Account…
Mail›Add Account…ℹ️On older versions of macOS, this option may be under File → Add Account instead.
-
3
On the account provider screen, select Other Mail Account… and click Continue.
⚠️Do not select iCloud, Google, Exchange, or any other listed provider — your Kwikweb email requires the Other Mail Account option.
-
4
Enter your account details and click Sign In:
- Name: the display name for outgoing emails (e.g. your name or company)
- Email Address: your full email address
- Password: your email password
⚠️Forgotten your password? Reset it using this guide before continuing.
-
5
Apple Mail will attempt to auto-detect your settings and fail — this is normal. A second screen will appear asking you to fill in the server details manually. Complete the fields as follows:
- Account Type: IMAP (recommended) or POP
- Incoming Mail Server:
mail.yourdomain.co.za - Outgoing Mail Server:
mail.yourdomain.co.za - User Name: your full email address
- Password: your email password
Click Sign In.
-
6
Apple Mail will verify the connection. It may display a certificate warning — click Continue to proceed. Once complete, select which apps to use with this account (at minimum leave Mail ticked) and click Done.
Your account will now appear in Mail, but the ports must still be corrected — proceed to Phase 3.

Apple Mail defaults to SSL on ports 993 (IMAP) and 465 (SMTP), which our server does not support. You need to update these manually. Go to:
Mail›Settings…›Accounts›your account›Server SettingsOn the Server Settings tab, update both sections to match the following:
📥 Incoming Mail ServerHost Namemail.yourdomain.co.zaPort143Use TLS/SSLOff ✕AuthenticationPasswordUsernameFull email address📤 Outgoing Mail ServerHost Namemail.yourdomain.co.zaPort587Use TLS/SSLOff ✕AuthenticationPasswordUsernameFull email address⚠️If you are using POP3 instead of IMAP, set the incoming port to
110with TLS/SSL off. The outgoing settings remain the same. -
8
Click Save. Apple Mail will reconnect using the updated settings.
✅All done! Your inbox should now sync and you'll be able to send and receive email from Apple Mail.
