How to Set Up Email on iPhone
A step-by-step guide to adding your Kwikweb-hosted email account to the built-in Apple Mail app on your iPhone.
Check Your Password First
Before setting up your iPhone, confirm your email password is correct by logging into Webmail at mail.yourdomain.co.za. If login fails, reset your password via your Kwikweb Control Panel before proceeding. Reset it by following this guide before continuing.
Throughout this guide, replace yourdomain.co.za with your actual domain name. Your username is always your full email address โ e.g. info@yourdomain.co.za.
iOS defaults to port 993 with SSL on after saving. You will need to manually correct this to port 143 with SSL off in step 7 โ otherwise your mail will not connect.
Add Your Email Account to iPhone
The built-in Mail app is the easiest option on iPhone. iOS will set up IMAP by default, which keeps your email synced across all your devices.
-
1
Open the Settings app on your iPhone, then scroll down and tap Mail.
SettingsโบMail -
2
Tap Accounts, then tap Add Account.
AccountsโบAdd Account -
3
On the account type screen, tap Other (at the bottom of the list).
โ ๏ธDo not select Google, Yahoo, or Microsoft โ these are for those specific providers. Your Kwikweb email needs the Other option.
-
4
Tap Add Mail Account and fill in your details:
- Name: the display name for outgoing emails
- Email: your full email address
- Password: your email password
- Description: a label for this account (e.g. Work Email)
Tap Next.
-
5
iOS will try to auto-detect settings and fail โ this is normal. Select IMAP at the top of the screen (recommended), then fill in both server sections:
Incoming Mail Server
- Host Name:
mail.yourdomain.co.za - Username: your full email address
- Password: your email password
Outgoing Mail Server
- Host Name:
mail.yourdomain.co.za - Username: your full email address
- Password: your email password
Tap Next.
- Host Name:
-
6
iOS will verify the settings. Once the verification completes, tap Save.
โน๏ธIf verification fails with an SSL warning, tap Continue (or Yes) when asked whether to proceed without SSL โ our server does not use SSL on these ports.
-
7
Now set the correct port numbers. Go to:
SettingsโบMailโบAccountsโบyour accountโบAccountโบAdvanced- Incoming (IMAP) Port:
143โ SSL: Off - Outgoing (SMTP) Port:
587โ SSL: Off
โ ๏ธiOS defaults to port 993 for IMAP with SSL on. You must manually change this to 143 with SSL off, otherwise your mail will not connect.
- Incoming (IMAP) Port:
-
8
Tap Done. Open the Mail app โ your inbox should start syncing shortly.
โAll done! You can now send and receive email from your iPhone.
